Box Tops for Education

Box tops for Education Contest!

All April long we will be in a competition with the other classrooms at Westside to see who can collect the most BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION to raise money for our school.  Please send them with your child any day in April! Ask your neighbors, family members, co-workers—whoever you might think would purchase items with box tops on them!

Thanks!

Xcel Energy Presentation

Wow, did the kids LOVE this presenter! We watched a video about the serious effects of electricity safety. I've never seen the kids so interested in something. They have had a great day today!

A man from Xcel Energy came out and taught us about different conductors and non-conductors of electricity. He showed us what would happen if different objects came into contact with electrical current.

He also shared with us information about how quickly electricty travels----AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT!  That was news to me! :)  Ask your kids about it!

Check out the video we took. Hopefully it comes through okay!

NDSU Mystery Reader

This morning we had an NDSU Football Player-Cole Jirik-#93 come and read his favorite childhood story to our class!

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
by: Judith Viorst

They asked him several questions---some really great ones like: How many touchdowns have you made?  Are you married?  How many tackles have you made? How did it feel to win back-to-back championships?

I love this book too....definitely a favorite from my child hood as well. The students totally ate it up! Here are a few snapshots of our 15 minutes with him!

Arm Span

Today we worked on line plotting and arm span. The students really enjoyed looking for the maximum, minimum, mode, median, and range!

Our class maximum was 61".
 Our class minimum was 43"
Therefore our class range was (maximum-minimum=range) 18"
 Our class mode was 51"
Our class median was also 51"

Favorite book...on our door

Today we did a vote on what our favorite class book has been so far this year.

Crazy but true, it was a quick GOOSEBUMPS read aloud that I did in January--Beware, the Snowman by R.L. Stine.  A few of our YMCA kids helped me out afterschool get it started and we plan to finish it on Monday! We are pretty proud of our work so far!  Stop by the school next week and check out all of the titles on the doors!  Yeah for MARCH READING MONTH!
